DEFINITION OF LAWYER VS. ATTORNEY:
The difference between a lawyer and an attorney is that the latter has passed a state Bar exam, can use the abbreviation Esq. after their name, is licensed to practice law in their respective states, and can represent clients in court proceedings.
A Lawyer on the other hand is an individual who has studied the law and all it's contents including torts, family, contract, business and agencies, Constitutional, criminal, trust and wills, intellectual and copyright, immigration, juvenile, tax, civil procedure, rules of ethics and property Laws. But a lawyer has not necessarily passed or taken a State's bar exam in the United States. Usually, to become a lawyer a person must go to law school for four years and pass every core course. A sole lawyer who is not an attorney may not give legal advice or represent a person in legal and court proceedings.
